Lectures, talks, workshops, mentoring services and children’s classes.

(Flexible during Covid 19 but this is the sort of thing Debby does when times are more normal!)

Debby runs workshops in Mixed Media and textiles, but can also lead workshops in art, design and drawing .

 

Dabble days, let Debby come to your group and set up some creative activities that will encourage members to chat, explore and enjoy making together.

(For example Debby spent a happy day with Westbury WI leading them in creative stitch, beading, silk painting and card making activities. Everyone had two or three things they had made to take home and had really enjoyed themselves.)

Arty Parties, for any age, 3-93 years! Let Debby know your interests and she can set something up. Debby  has hourly and daily rates .

For example recently, 15 ten year olds made beaded brooches, a similar sized group of 9 year olds made soft toys. A club for older people made batik pictures.

Debby is a qualified(P.G.C.E.) CRB checked Primary teacher, she has also led art clubs and School inservice training for Art.

If you are interested in booking her as an artist in residence or lead teacher for Art weeks or Art events for any age 3 years upwards, do get in touch to discuss your setting’s requirements.

For example she has led cooperative projects with classes creating large silk batik banners in several schools in Bristol, Cheltenham, Chepstow and Dudley

Mixed media Workshops;- Debby can introduce you to use of foils, angelina fibres, and other interesting and unusual techniques.

Classes are suitable for beginners and those who have some knowledge but wish to take their creativity further.

“What shall we do with a shrunken jumper?” half day

Tutor: Debby Bird ( minimum number 4)

Bring us your shrunken disasters and turn them into something new and warm and cosy. Ideas, tips and techniques to recreate woollens and old blankets into stylish recycled goodies.

Extra trimmings, felts and blankets can be supplied by the tutor if you are not disaster prone.

Felt, beaded brooches

half day or 3 hour evening

Using hand made or ready made felts, we will use dry felting needles to build thread and yarns for a background for simple stitching either by machine or hand. As a final touch small beads and sequins or decorative wires can be added. You will also be taught how to secure a silver plated brooch back to enable your new creation to be pinned onto jackets, bags or your favourite hat

Silk Painted Scarf

3 hour course

Silk painted scarf, why no choose your favourite colours and make a unique present  for yourself!

 Batik – absolute beginners

Create vibrant line drawings using hot soya wax, and paint with fabric dyes. After experimenting with techniques, you will be able to make a larger piece that could become a cushion cover, a piece for your wall, or used to make cards

CELEBRATION BUNTING

A lovely thing for a pre wedding party that could involve families of all ages. Recently I co-led a lovely surprise day for a bride. Grans, uncles, cousins all helped cut out , iron on, design and make celebration bunting with the message CONGRATULATIONS spelt out on the flags.

Debby is the Textiles tutor and teaches day workshops (Usually Saturdays) in machine embroidery

and  courses in creative stitch which are textile art and  hand embroidery with a creative twist.
